A local source, under your control
The backup stays on your Mac. TextTrace reads the supported WhatsApp data needed to create the record; it does not upload the backup contents.
Backups can be incomplete or differ by iOS and app version. Review the imported result before relying on it.
Prepare the backup
- Connect the iPhone to the Mac.
- Create a local backup in Finder or iTunes with backup encryption turned off.
- Open TextTrace for Mac and choose the backup importer.

Frequently asked questions
Does TextTrace bypass encrypted iPhone backups?
No. The Mac importer reads only unencrypted Finder or iTunes backups. TextTrace does not bypass backup encryption.
Does a checksum make an export legally admissible?
No. A SHA-256 checksum can help you check whether a file changed. It does not establish authenticity, completeness, admissibility, or legal sufficiency.
