Mac backup · Encryption boundary

TextTrace does not bypass encrypted iPhone backups.

The Mac importer reads only a user-selected, unencrypted Finder or iTunes backup. If your backup is encrypted, use the password and Apple’s supported controls to create an appropriate new backup, or choose a direct export, screenshots, or screen recording.

Why the importer stops

Encryption protects backup contents. TextTrace does not guess passwords, remove encryption, or claim a forensic bypass. Apple’s computer-backup documentation explains the Encrypt local backup setting and password behavior. Work from Apple’s supported controls and preserve any backup that may matter before creating another.

Choose another route

WhatsApp TXT or ZIPUse WhatsApp Export Chat when the option is available and the exported scope meets your need.
ScreenshotsUse for a short, exact visible range; preserve timestamps, headers, and overlap.
Screen recordingUse for a longer visible run after a quality test; some apps may block capture.
New unencrypted backupCreate only through Apple’s supported process, with authorization and enough storage; it is a new source, not a conversion of history that was never present.

Backup completeness is a separate question

Opening a backup does not guarantee that every message or attachment is present. Messages in iCloud, offloaded attachments, device state, backup timing, and application data can affect availability. Compare the imported beginning, end, sample messages, and required attachments against the device before describing the record’s scope.

Questions, answered precisely

Frequently asked questions

Can TextTrace decrypt my Finder backup?

No. It reads only user-selected, unencrypted Finder or iTunes backups and does not bypass backup encryption.

Will a new unencrypted backup contain every old message?

Not necessarily. Content depends on device, sync, application, and backup state. Verify the specific messages and attachments you need.
