Know the compatibility boundary

The Mac workflow is specifically for supported WhatsApp data in an accessible unencrypted Finder or iTunes backup selected by the user. It is not a general iMessage database reader, iCloud login, password bypass, encrypted-backup unlocker, or deleted-data recovery service. If the backup is encrypted, use an authorized process and the correct password rather than trying to bypass protection.

Review before exporting

Backup. Confirm device name and backup date.

Chat. Check participant labels and date boundaries.

Media. Note which files are present, missing, or unsupported.

Open a few distinctive messages from the beginning, middle, and end of the required period. A successful technical import does not by itself prove the backup represents every message that ever existed.

Choose a purpose-built output

Use searchable PDF for chronological reading, CSV for filtering and analysis, HTML for portable browsing, or RSMF 2.0 only when a compatible specialist workflow asks for it. Preserve the backup and exported source information. TextTrace organizes the accessible data you selected; it does not certify collection, ownership, or admissibility.

Questions, answered precisely

Frequently asked questions

Can TextTrace open an encrypted iPhone backup?

No. The documented Mac workflow supports user-selected accessible unencrypted Finder or iTunes backups. It does not bypass backup encryption.

Does the Mac backup reader export iMessage too?

No claim is made here for iMessage database extraction. This workflow is specifically for supported WhatsApp data discovered in the selected backup.
