What RSMF is for
Relativity’s official RSMF documentation defines a format for short and instant messages that preserves structured message events and participants for compatible review. Compared with a flat PDF, structured data can help a review platform group conversations, filter people and dates, and display message-specific information.
RSMF is specialist-oriented. A client, HR manager, or attorney who only needs a readable handoff may prefer searchable PDF or CSV.
What TextTrace checks
TextTrace exports RSMF 2.0 and performs local structural checks against its generated package. Those checks can catch problems in the file TextTrace created, but they are not the same as importing into every recipient environment. Platform configuration, size limits, supported fields, and review rules can differ.
What you still need to validate
Source. Confirm the selected messages and attachments are the intended scope.
Structure. Review warnings and verify participant and date mapping.
Recipient. Ask the target system owner to ingest and validate the actual package.
Do not call an RSMF file “court-ready,” “forensically certified,” or guaranteed compatible. TextTrace does not determine admissibility or replace a qualified e-discovery workflow.

Is RSMF better than PDF?
It serves a different job. RSMF is for compatible structured review workflows; PDF is usually easier for people to read, print, and reference.
Does a local RSMF check guarantee Relativity ingestion?
No. It checks the generated package locally. The receiving team should validate the actual file in its target environment and workflow.
